Case Studies of Former Show-Me Christian Children

Child A, Female
      Current Age:      29
      Placed:               Age 15
Circumstance: After seven years in the Foster care program and many different foster families, she came to Show-Me along with her sister.
Projected stay: She was adopted by her houseparents when she was 17 and graduated in 2000.
Successes:          After attending college at Ozark Christian College for two years, she decided to return to Show-Me Christian Youth Home to fill a need for daycare and relief child care. She continued in this capacity for six years until her wedding in July 2008. She now lives in Maryland with her husband; they welcomed their first daughter in July, 2009.

Child B, Male
      Current Age:      28
      Placed:               Age 11
Circumstance: Child C was the middle child of three brothers placed at Show-Me in 1993 by the Division of Family Services.
Projected stay: After four years, he returned to his father’s care. He struggled to continue
in the right direction, lacking structure and the enforcement of boundaries at home.
Successes:          He returned to Show-Me in 2006 with his wife and son to serve as houseparents. His unique perspective into the needs of teen boys allows him to lovingly and firmly help boys become respectable men.

Case C, Siblings
      Current Age:     23 year-old twins, 17 year-old sister
      Placed:               Ages 15 & 9
Circumstance:   The mother of these siblings contacted Show-Me to care for her children as she completed a Drug Rehabilitation program. The youngest has Cerebral Palsy; the twins were beginning a path of rebellion (skipping school, etc.).
Projected stay:   The twins graduated in 2005, the youngest remains at Show-Me; their mother has not completed a rehabilitation program, nor has she made contact in six years.
Successes:          The twins earned honor roll status at our Christian School as well as the reputation for being among the most responsible teenagers at Show-Me. The youngest has made dramatic progress through the physical, occupational, and speech therapy arranged by Show-Me – a service her mother was not able to maintain. The twins have graduated; one attends college at the University of Central Missouri, the other lives and works in Columbia.  The youngest continues to thrive with her family at Show-Me.
