Warrensburg Food Center Success Story

Dave was doing well working and supporting his family which included his wife and three children.  Everything seemed complete.   Then Dave had an injury that he felt was related to his daily activities he did at work.  He had to stop work due to his pain and started seeing doctors to get a diagnosis.  His income came to a complete halt.  Diane, his wife was a stay at home mom caring for their three children, ages 1,,3 and 8.   She now had the added responsibility of caring for her husband who was still trying to get all the paperwork completed to state he was injured at work and was entitled to Workman Compensation.

With no income coming into the household during this time, they were referred to our Food Center for assistance. Dave did not want to come in and receive help from our agency. He felt it was needed by others worse off than he was. We had to comfort him and let him know it was only for a short time he would require assistance and then he would be back on his feet again.

Well, Dave’s Workman Compensation was approved. He was off work for four months and kept his appointments through the Food Center as scheduled for his families well being.

Dave has healed; he returned to work and is not utilizing the Food Center services any longer. Dave has become a volunteer when her time permits.

Our organization and many other Johnson County United Way agencies assisted them so that they could keep up with their own financial responsibilities and continue to function as a stable family unit.
