The Johnson County United Way and sixteen of their agencies will provided an evening of good food and a large supply of sweets and other items at their eighteenth annual Chili Cook-Off. Additionally, the Warrensburg Manor Care Center and KWKJ 98.5 plan to join in the fun by presenting their unique chili to help in the festivities.
Dick Sliwka, long-time chili chairman will be on hand to welcome guests. The chili’s ranged from a Wild chili with venison made by the 4-H Assistance Fund to Confession chili which was lasagna-not chili (they had to confess) from Catholic Charities, all served with condiments such as cheese, onions, chips, jalapeno peppers and crackers. Kingsville Recreation Program’s Grand Slam chili outranked the Johnson County Adult Literacy’s ABC chili to take the title of Grand Champion Chili with Warrensburg Manor Care Center’s You Just Can’t Eat One Bowl chili coming in a close third. The chili portion of the event raised $1,437.
Agency chili’s competing this year are: CPR-Can’t Possibly Resist and Red Cross Needed (American Red Cross-Warrensburg Chapter sending two kinds); The Big Chill (Big Brothers/Big Sisters); Show-Me’s Sensational Savory Chili (Show-Me Christian Youth Home); ABC Chili (Johnson County Adult Literacy); Habeas Corpus Chili (Legal Aid of Western Missouri); Melting Pot Chili (The Food Center); Red Kettle Chili (Salvation Army); Black Diamond ReRun Chill (Another One’s Treasure-Pathway Community Behavioral Healthcare); Grand Slam Chili by Kingsville Recreation Program; S’More Chili (Girl Scouts); Confession Chili (Catholic Charities); On the WILD Side Chili (4-H Assistance), The FUN Chili (Warrensburg Parks for the 21st Century), Hobo’s Delight Chili (Johnson County HELP), Señor Chili (Warrensburg/Holden Senior Centers) and an unnamed chili from Homemaker HealthCare. In addition, Radio KWKJ 98.5 and Warrensburg Manor Care Center provided You Can’t Eat Just One Bowl Chili.
Senator David Pearce will serve as auctioneer for the two separate auctions which will take place at 5 and 6 PM. In amazingly active actions, many items that can be will include homemade cakes, pies, cookies, fudge, breads and donuts, baskets, an autographed framed picture of Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs running back.
