Under the guidance of Dr. Deborah Orr, campaign chair, the Johnson County United Way held its first Day of Caring. The United Way of America has enouraged local United Way's to hold Day's of Caring designed to help people contribute in ways other than financially. Writing a check is not always that hard to do; lots of times people feel that they would be more committed if they actually had a hands-on experience. And lots of people, of course, have lots of skills that they can volunteer to help others out.
This year found the Johnson County Christian Academy supporting the Day of Caring by providing students to work at the Parkview Garden senior housing, helping residents there with yard work and small chores. Asistabce was also provided to the Survival Adult Abuse Center by some students at UCVM and community volunteers.
Another Day of Caring will be planned for next year. ontaft theUnitd Way at 660-747-5174 of you have any suggestions for activities that would serve the community and provide outlets for those weilling to donat their time.
